To Introduce Yourself, Comment On This Blog

Welcome to Innkeeping 101! We thought it would be good to exchange greetings and introductions, as if we were meeting for the first time over coffee. You can do this by using the Comment feature below this entry.

Tell us who you are, the name of your bed and breakfast, its size and where it's located, and anything else you'd like us to know.

Signing up and commenting here at Innkeeping101 is another way of putting the URL for your Inn out there on the internet. This may help to raise your search engine results, helping guests find your inn easier.  Here's how you might do that:
  1. Subscribe to the blog and to the comments so you are allowed to participate. You may also join as a "Follower" although this is a separate step and not really required to make Comments.
  2. Underneath the article you will see the word "Comments." You need to click on that to open the Comments dialogue area, if it's not already visible.
  3. Below the "Post a Comment" area beneath the articles, you will see a drop-down menu called "Comment as:" The ID you used to "sign in" to the blog will be the default Commenter. But if you choose the  "Name/URL" option, you can type in your B&B's name manually and then type in your inn's homepage URL. Then, when your Comment posts to the blog, your B&B's web page link will appear with your name, so that when people click on your B&B's name, they will be directed to your website.
  4. It may take a day or two to appear, as the blog moderator needs to approve subscribers and comments in order to spare us all from spammers.

  1. Thanks for getting this coffee talk going. My name is Tracy Egan and I own Ashland's Black Swan Inn. We bought the B&B almost 6 years ago when it was named Colonel Silsbys. I purchased the Colonel's civil war letters for posterity and for use at our local Southern Oregon University. The Black Swan has 6 rooms and a few lovely gardens that need attention shortly as we shift into spring. I am glad to have had the last 5 seasons under my belt and am looking forward to this new one. Lots of learning!

  2. Hello I'm Ellen, innkeeper/owner of the Chanticleer Inn, a 1920 craftsman situated in one of Ashland's historic districts near downtown. This year the inn celebrates its 30th anniversary as such it is the oldest continuing B&B in Ashland. I've only been its caretaker since 2001. Has it been that long? Time flies when you're having fun.
I look forward to reading innkeepers' comments and questions from all over over the world!

  3. Hi there! We bought our b&b 13 months ago. First season went well. We innkeepers here in Ashland, OR, are blessed by the proximity of the Oregon Shakespeare festival, which assures us guests 8 months out of the year. We hadn't been innkeepers before, so we found our association with ABBN to be very helpful.
Our inn has 5 rooms. Our website is www.albion-inn.com

  4. Deedie and David Runkel, Greetings, we own and operate Anne Hathaway's B&B and Garden Suites, a 16 room property in Ashland. We moved here in 2002 from the East Coast, after looking at a number of inns in PA, MD, and VA, but decided Ashland was our kind of town.

  8. Yesterday at the Oregon B&B Guild meeting, I learned how to get your Comment signature to be your Inn's name and website URL. Directly underneath the "Post a Comment" box, it says: "Comment as:" and then "Select profile" next to that. Click on the downward pointing arrow and select "Name/URL." Then ENTER YOUR INN'S NAME and put in your inn's URL. Now your comment will post with your inn's name and when people click on your inn's name above your posted comment, they will be taken directly to your inn's website.

  9. Hello Dear Inn Keepers,

Thanks to Cyd Ropp, (The Albion Inn), I now am writing on your new blog spot. I met Cyd online through our mutual study endeavors: Philosophy. However, I note that she's the one who has the Ph.D. and sad to say, not I.

I love Ashland and as Cyd said, who doesn't. I wouldn't mind a little drive up your way because it's been awhile since I've been in Ashland. I bet that it has grown a bit.

I'm writing on your blog because I have just started a new service that you might want to use.

It's called Inn-Ovation. It's your solution for Professional Inn Sitting and Consulting Services. I am a quick study, energetic, organized, love people and cooking, and I myself had my own bed and breakfast for 5 years. So, I know how to run one effortlessly. I just recently started this service because I missed Inn Keeping and my guests so dreadfully. I have received rave reviews from my guests and now from the Inn Keepers who have hired me to Inn Sit. I believe that I am the perfect professional Inn Sitter for you to trust and hire. So when you have a minute, please do see my website: http://www.inn-ovation.info and my blog: http://blog.vinestreetinn.com. That will give you all of my contact info. Also, if you wish, take a look at my lovely old inns web page for further information: http://www.vinestreetinn.com.

I hope that you are having as gorgeous weather as we are. I reside in Paso Robles which is on the CA Central Coast directly in between San Francisco and Los Angeles. It used to be a cow town; now it's a fabulous wine area. Cal Poly is 28 miles South and Hearst Castle 28 miles West.

I'm looking forwards to hearing from you soon.

My very best to you all very amazing Inn Keepers,
